The studio & the hands behind it

About Posy.

Posy Hartwell, Bloomwash Studio

Hello, I'm Posy.

I draw soft, growing things onto skin — watercolour blooms, fine-line botanicals, and the occasional bee. Bloomwash Studio is a small, by-appointment studio in a converted West Asheville sunroom: plants in the window, kettle on, one person in the chair at a time.

I came to tattooing the long way round — through botanical illustration, a lot of pressed-flower books, and a stubborn love of soft colour. What I love about a small studio is the pace: there's time to draw something just for you, time to talk it through, and time to do it gently.

Most of what I make is quiet — a single stem on a wrist, a loose peony on a shoulder, a moth across a sternum. I work hourly so I'm never hurrying, and I only take one client a day. If you've been carrying an idea around for a while, I'd love to hear it.

A short field note
2014

Studied botanical illustration; spent more time pressing flowers than finishing essays.

2017

First apprenticeship — fell for the quiet of single-needle work and soft colour.

2019

Opened Bloomwash Studio in a sunroom with good light and a very nosy cat.
